As of December 2020, the $6,000,000 debt has been fully funded. Through the leadership of the Township Board, an aggressive plan was developed to reach full funding by 2023. In 2013, Meridian Township faced over $6,000,000 in legacy debt stemming from the Township’s retiree health care plan and original pension fund. These two plans cover post-employment health care and the original Township pension, which was closed in 2000 due to the Township’s transition into the Municipal Employees’ Retirement System (MERS). Meridian Township officials are pleased to announce that after eight years of planning and foresight, the Township’s retiree health care plan and original pension fund are now 100% funded. ![]()
